June 6, 2011 “Divison by zero”
06th of June – 15th of September 2011
Carbon 12 proudly presents Division by Zero, a group exhibition featuring the works of Anahita Razmi, Mathias Garnitschnig, Farshid Larimian, Aamir Habib and Florian Hafele.
Division by Zero is a paradox that makes computers and minds crash alike. Applied to art it symbolizes borders that are crossed: concept and form, personal and politics. L´art pour l´art and social sculpture are no longer opposing entities, their contradictory unification generates explosive energy and endless possibilities for contextualization.
Anahita Razmi’s work blurs the borders of fact and fiction, citing art history, but always pointing in future directions; functioning as a surface for reflections, and proposals, at the same time: political and personal.
The sculptures of Mathias Garnitschnig focus on the metaphysical aspects of material and shape, investigating the duality between idea and work. Self-sufficient and pure, where medium is message, content is form.
Aamir Habib’s works questions the present condition, bold statements that are stem from the wave that make the unthinkable possible and the ludicrous acceptable. Questioning the cosmetic democracy, where bad architecture is terrorism. Serious and witty takes are not contradictory but necessary, for Habib art nurtures life and vice versa.
Florian Hafele’s oeuvre combines theoretical thought with material reality, social and critical, committed but rational. His anthropocentric approach is fascinating both in artistic skill and social relevance.
Division by Zero doesn’t strive to present artistic monoliths, enclosed entities that are finished by any means, but works that address the aforementioned dualities. Only artists who put themselves deliberately in these difficult positions can create this vibrating energy with their work. Division by Zero will create a buzz, strong and pulsating, made to stay.
